Conservation Voters of PA hails Shapiro decision to appeal flawed RGGI ruling

Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Molly Parzen issued the following statement hailing Governor Shapiro’s decision to appeal a flawed Commonwealth Court ruling blocking Pennsylvania’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative:

Conservation Voters of PA applauds the Shapiro Administration’s decision to appeal a deeply flawed Commonwealth Court ruling. Our policymaking processes must put the health and welfare of Pennsylvania’s families above the profits of entrenched corporate polluters. The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is a vital tool for fighting carbon pollution and hastening the transition to a 21st century economy powered by clean energy that creates union jobs.

In pursuing this appeal, the governor is acting in the spirit of our state Constitution’s Environmental Rights Amendment, which highlights Pennsylvanians’ rights to “clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment.” Participation in RGGI will provide hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of investments in clean energy projects that improve air quality and create jobs.

Governor Shapiro’s decision puts us one step closer to a clean energy future that delivers economic prosperity and union jobs to all corners of the Commonwealth.
