Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Josh McNeil has released the following statement lauding Governor Wolf’s announcement of a major new solar initiative that will produce nearly half of the state government’s electricity:

Governor Wolf’s actions will make Pennsylvania a leader in combating climate change by reducing emissions and transitioning Pennsylvania to a new green energy economy. Today’s announcement – that state government will be procuring nearly half its total electricity through seven new solar energy projects – signals the creation of hundreds of jobs in a thriving industry.

Yet as Governor Wolf knows, Pennsylvania can’t solve the climate crisis on its own, which is why the governor took a key first step in partnering with other states to lower emissions by joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. Now, as President Biden and Congress prepare to debate once-in-a-generation legislation to reduce emissions, we look forward to working with Governor Wolf to advocate for a bill that builds on these solar investments and on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to create a sustainable economic and environmental future for Pennsylvania’s families.
