Last week’s tragic derailment on the Ohio-Pennsylvania border should be a major wake-up call for policymakers. The unchecked expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure across our commonwealth may be enriching oil and gas companies – but it does so at the expense of Pennsylvania families as safety considerations and best practices are sacrificed in the relentless pursuit of profits. Powerful oil and gas interests are, even now, pushing for continued fossil fuel expansion in Pennsylvania. They want generous tax breaks and swift approvals to double down on projects that harm Pennsylvania families and workers. Our leaders need to learn the lesson that is on stark display on the Pennsylvania border. It’s time to stop fossil fuel giveaways and put Pennyslvanians’ safety first.
