Helen Gym

Helen Gym is running for re-election to an at-large seat on the Philadelphia City Council.

Gym has championed improving water systems in schools, including moving legislation to ensure schools have adequate hydration stations and water testing.

Gym has worked to reduce exposure to lead, including voting to require landlords of all properties built prior to 1978 to submit a lead-free or lead-safe certification in order to operate in Philadelphia. She also worked to advance legislation requiring that water in all housing rentals and daycare centers be tested by lead.

Gym sees the disparity in life expectancy between Philadelphia’s richest and poorest communities as one of the most pressing environmental issues facing the city, and she has joined with the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers and others to call upon our city, state, and the business community to commit to a 21st Century School Construction and Modernization plan which would address the toxic, deteriorating buildings of our city’s public school system.

Gym opposes the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure in Philadelphia, and would work for a carbon free SEPTA system by 2035.

Gym is a leader who has prioritized our environment, and we need to keep her in City Council to move Philadelphia forward. We strongly urge you to vote for Helen Gym for Philadelphia City Council At-Large on November 5!
