The following is a statement from Molly Parzen, Executive Director of Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania, regarding the U.S. Supreme Court decision to gut the Clean Air Act in West Virginia v. EPA.

An ultra-conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court today eviscerated decades of precedent in a devastating ruling that threatens the very future of our planet.

In the face of the new restrictions the court has placed on federal environmental policy, our entire government, both in Washington and in Harrisburg, must step up now and provide real solutions to head off a climate catastrophe.

In Washington, Congress must finally pass President Biden’s climate plan, which would create millions of jobs and reduce carbon pollution by building a 21st century economy powered by clean energy. There is a real opportunity, but the window is closing rapidly, so they must act swiftly.

And here in Pennsylvania, Governor Wolf and environmental champions in the legislature must continue the fight to implement the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which would dramatically lower emissions while creating jobs and providing relief to local businesses, working families and seniors.

Now is the time to press for bold action to fight back against big polluters and their extremist friends on the Supreme Court by advancing policies that lower emissions, tackle the climate crisis and create jobs and economic prosperity for Pennsylvania businesses and families.
