Conservation Voter of PA Hails Swift State House Passage of Landmark Voting Rights Bill
Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Molly Parzen has issued the following statement in response to the passage of HB1396:
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening our democracy today when it passed Speaker Joanna McClinton’s landmark bill to modernize and expand access to our election systems.
HB1396 is designed to remove barriers to voting by establishing in-person early voting and making it easier to access no-excuse absentee ballots.
At the same time, the legislation would create uniform standards for ballot drop boxes, countering right-wing attempts to make it more difficult to return mail-in ballots.
And it would head off another tactic favored by extremists by reforming the election certification process, putting new safeguards in place to prevent frivolous challenges designed to overturn the will of the voters.
At a time when Donald Trump and his billionaire friends in Washington are trying to restrict access to the ballot box, action in Harrisburg to protect these fundamental rights is more important than ever.
We call on the state Senate to act quickly on this comprehensive election bill so that we can begin implementing common sense improvements to our electoral system immediately. Let’s send a message to Washington that Pennsylvanians stand united behind a world class election system designed to empower voters.
