Conservation Voters of PA Hails Important Supreme Court Victories
Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Molly Parzen released the following statement in response to Tuesday’s election results:
On Tuesday, voters across our commonwealth overwhelmingly voted to reject the politicization of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court by right-wing extremists. These election results highlight voters’ belief that the courts should protect the rights of working families and not advance the interests of billionaires and corporate polluters.
We are proud of the work our team did to contact voters over 19 million times across the state to educate them on the importance of an independent Supreme Court to protect our voting rights, strengthen our democracy and safeguard our environment.
The Supreme Court’s pro-environment majority has previously strengthened enforcement of Pennsylvania’s Environmental Rights Amendment, which guarantees our right to clean air, pure water and access to open space.
Now, these results are wind at the backs of environmental advocates who are trying to protect the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). RGGI is Pennsylvania’s strongest tool to lower energy prices for working families and expand access to clean energy. Tonight's results directly refute efforts to block Pennsylvania’s participation in RGGI and reaffirm that Pennsylvania voters want a court that will stand up for our environment, our democracy, and our basic rights.
With these strong election results, it is essential that leaders in Harrisburg stand firm against any efforts to gut this vital program.
