CVPA HAILS HISTORIC ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTIONS IN GOVERNOR’S BUDGET ADDRESS

Harrisburg, PA – Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania (CVPA) issued the following statement from Executive Director Molly Parzen following Governor Shapiro’s 2023 Budget Address:

Conservation Voters of PA is grateful for Gov. Shapiro’s commitment to protecting Pennsylvanians’ constitutional rights to clean water, air and unspoiled natural resources as outlined in his proposed budget. The governor’s budget represents an historic investment in environmental protection by hiring needed personnel, investing in initiatives like the Clean Water Fund and fighting climate change by advancing clean energy through RGGI.

At the same time, in light of the recent tragedy in East Palestine, it is more important than ever that we ensure that emerging technologies, like hydrogen, are implemented in a way that prioritizes public safety and avoids the costly mistakes of the past. We must prioritize the needs of Pennsylvania families over the greed of large oil and gas companies that prioritize profits over safety as we work together to create union jobs and secure a prosperous clean energy future for our commonwealth.

Gov. Shapiro’s leadership on these issues critical to the health and welfare of the citizens of our Commonwealth is most welcomed and we look forward to working with his administration and our legislative partners to advance these important initiatives.
