Currently, just 4% of Pennsylvania’s energy comes from renewable sources and we emit more carbon pollution than many of our neighbors. As energy costs soar, CVPA will advocate for policies that make our Commonwealth a clean-energy leader — fighting climate change by ending reliance on fossil fuels, while lowering energy costs, and creating a more resilient and equitable future for all Pennsylvanians:
- Governor Shapiro’s Lightning Plan, a suite of pro-environment policies, including:
- House Bill 501: Increases the amount of clean energy generated by Pennsylvania to 35% by 2035.
- House Bill 502: Cuts bureaucratic red-tape to speed up the approval of clean energy projects.
- House Bill 503: Implements a Pennsylvania-specific program to limit carbon pollution.
- House Bill 504: Establishes a program to bring clean energy to local communities through shared infrastructure.
- House Bill 505: Modernizes Act 129 to boost efficiency for homes and businesses.
- House Bill 782: Imposes strict transparency measures on PJM, Pennsylvania’s electric grid operator, which will require them to disclose any recorded votes regarding electric transmission decisions, allowing legislators and the public to hold them accountable on rising energy prices.
- Senate Bill 876: Establishes the Pennsylvania Home Preservation Program which supports home repairs and energy efficiency improvements for low-income households.
- House Bill 894: Creates a program to train and employ veterans in conservation and clean energy jobs.
- House Bill 1260: Establishes new standards for the construction of warehouses that would require that 40% of their roof space to support solar panels, and provides incentives for retrofitting existing warehouses to facilitate solar installation.
- House Bill 1364: Invests $292.5 million in transit agencies to expand and improve public transit across the Commonwealth, which will help reduce air pollution.
- House Bill 1556: Proposes the creation of an Advanced Clean Manufacturing Tax Credit that would consider projects that: generate the greatest job opportunities, significantly reduce pollutants or emissions, and have a high potential for technological advancement.
