State Elections Pennsylvania Voters Need to Start Paying Attention To

This November is a big year for elections in Pennsylvania.

The congressional midterms are getting a lot of publicity, as is Governor Shapiro's re-election campaign.

But there are other important elections that Pennsylvanians should pay attention to.

Pennsylvania State Senate Elections

In 2026, half of the State Senate — 25 seats! — will be on the ballot. And right now, the State Senate has a Republican majoirity.

Why do the Pennsylvania State Senate races matter for our electricity bills, water, air, and lands?

The Pennsylvania State Senate is standing in the way of commonsense solutions that would lower our utility bills, reduce pollution, and protect our water, air, and forests.

  • In 2025, the State Senate voted ZERO times and held ZERO hearings on pro-environment policies.
  • So far in 2026, the State Senate is blocking 13 pro-environment bills that have passed the State House and that Governor Shapiro would sign into law.

We're talking about legislation that would stop utilities from gouging customers, lower our utility bills, make cheap solar energy available to more Pennsylvanians,  and protect our kids from toxic chemicals in their drinking water.

To break this gridlock, we must put the Senate in pro-environment hands.

Is it doable?

Absolutely — but it won't be easy. Anti-environment Republicans have controlled the state Senate since the early 90s!

But it is finally within reach: a small number of targeted races could fundamentally change what is possible for Pennsylvania's foreseeable environmental future.

Pennsylvania State House Elections

Also this November, every single seat in the State House —all 203! — will be on the ballot.

Currently, pro-environment lawmakers only have a one-vote majority. That means every single bill impacting our air, land, water, and energy passes by a razor-thin margin at best.

Even with that slim majority, the State House has been busy at work passing policies to:

  • Lower our utility bills
  • Put guardrails on data centers
  • Bring new clean manufacturing to Pennsylvania
  • Expand solar to warehouse roofs
  • Protecting access to voting

In 2026, it is essential to not only maintain but grow our slim, one-vote majority in the State House.

How You Can Help Put Pennsylvania in Pro-Environment Hands in 2026

We have an election plan to transform people’s anger and frustration into action.

We’re building the kind of campaign that wins close elections: reaching voters at their doors, on their phones, online, and in their mailboxes — so they hear our message everywhere they turn.

We’re focusing our resources where they matter most, using new voter research to reach the people most likely to decide these critical races.

Can you chip in today to fund our political and voter mobilization programs? Any amount will help fuel the work to put pro-environment champions in charge of Harrisburg.
